What is that art ?

My project is about art, and more precisely artistic movement recognition. I chose for this project that subject because it is part of culture in its general meaning, and I know from experience that being able to recognize the specific artistic movement a piece of art belongs to may be a tricky question. For this project, I chose to narrow my research to only paintings
First things first, it is important to make a quick reminder of great artistic movements. If you want to know more do not hesitate to click here :

How many artistic movements can you recognize from these following examples ?
Any guess ?
What about this one ?
This one is more famous !

The platform recognizes pointillism with a confidence of 89,57% for the image on the left
On the right, it recognizes cubism with a confidence of 98,68%!
I was inspired by a French group of artists and engineers called NoArtist.Their approach to art is quite unique and original. Indeed they created two algorithms linked one to another. The first one receives the data, for example 2,000 portraits, it treats it in order to recognize what caracterizes 'portraits'. Then it creates a brand new 'portrait', and sends it to the other algorithm which judges its accuracy.
However, it is important to highlight that the humans have the final word regarding the piece of art that will be exposed, but also they choose the data entered in the first place !

This approach is obviously linked to what is called "Deep Learning" ! Indeed, the more one nourrishes the first algorithm, the more accurate is the answer given by the second one. It is a very simple explanation I admit, but if you want to know more about the subject, or to have the opinion of a real expert, I will not blame you !
In order to satisfy your desire of knowledge, I put at your disposition some documents, videos... !

There is a very interesting website : What is deep learning ?
And a nice video explaning the subject more deeply !
The goal of my project is to be able to find the artistic movement the piece of art belongs to. To do so, the creator has to deliver a certain amount of paintings (like 1,000) of each artistic movement in the database. When the database is all completed, the colors, the ligns, the composition, the organization of the painting is analized in order to find the common characteristics. When that task is done, the user can finally summit the piece of art that interests him/her and finally have the answer !
Here is an example of a code, so that you can have the structure :

I think it is a essential question to think about art, and culture more generally speaking, in relation with Artificial Intelligence. During an interview I had the chance to have with the crew member of NoArtist, we talked about this relationship and what are the issues, questions led by it.
Indeed, people are often reluctant to the idea of art made by a machine, because the idea of art as a sacred gift is really alive. After all, using new technology as a creative tool is not new ! For instance, photography was first a technological breaktrough and finally it became an universally admitted artistic process !
